A residential property on Facing Island, located off Gladstone Harbour, Queensland, was originally used as a weekend retreat, with long-term plans to transition into a permanent residence.

Given the remote island location and limited access to grid services, the client required a reliable, scalable energy system that could support full-time living both now and into the future.

DPA worked closely with RJ Warren Solar & Electrical to supply a robust off-grid solution designed for reliability, performance and long-term flexibility.


The Requirements

The primary requirement was to future-proof the PV and battery storage system to accommodate the client’s plan to live permanently on the island.

This meant:

  • Reliable, continuous power supply
  • A system capable of expansion as energy needs increase
  • Proven components suitable for off-grid and remote applications
  • Clear system monitoring and control for long-term confidence

The Challenge

The project site presented several logistical challenges. Facing Island is only accessible by boat, with a limited local ferry service. Transporting equipment to site required careful planning and flexibility to avoid delays and minimise disruption to the installation timeline.

How It Was Delivered

Where possible, the RJ Warren team utilised the local ferry service. When ferry access was unavailable, they relied on their own 6-metre vessel to transport components to the island, enabling after-hours access and ensuring the project stayed on track.

This approach allowed the team to deliver and install the system with minimal disruption, despite the site’s remote location.
