Overview

The Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI Series (VDI-16, VDI-32, and VDI-64) is designed to prevent electrolytic corrosion in marine environments by blocking low-voltage DC currents that can enter a vessel through the shore power earth connection.

Installed directly behind the boat’s 230V shore power inlet, the galvanic isolator protects underwater metal components such as the hull, propeller, and shaft while maintaining full electrical safety compliance.

Key Features

Electrolytic Corrosion Protection

  • Blocks low-voltage DC currents from shore power earth
  • Prevents corrosion of underwater metal components
  • Essential for long-term marine vessel protection

Diode-Based Isolation Design

  • Internal anti-parallel diode configuration
  • Allows current flow in both directions above threshold voltage
  • Diode conduction threshold of approximately 1.4 Vdc

Fail-Safe Electrical Safety

  • Blocks normal galvanic currents caused by potential differences between metals
  • Allows higher fault currents to pass
  • Ensures residual-current device (RCD) can safely disconnect the circuit during faults

Marine Installation Ready

  • Installed directly behind the 230V shore power connection
  • Designed specifically for marine AC systems
